Our galley, the heart of the boat, is one of the most important areas onboard. To me, being able to prepare home cooked food, with enough space, storage and easy flow, is essential.

Whilst similar in layout and position to when we first got her, the space has changed a bit.
When it became clear that the diesel tanks needed replacing and the roof had to be cut out to remove them, it provided the opportune moment to reconfigure the saloon and galley area.
Moving the galley bulkhead back one metre to utilise a dead space between the galley bulkhead and engine room, really opened up the space, it also reduced the length of duck-through in the passage to the aft cabin and offered a larger seating plan around the table.

Boat renovation
We reused the existing galley cupboards that were stored in the garage until work had been completed. They were lifted back in after the new tanks were fitted.
Looking back it seems like SO much work…and it was! I'm glad to be in the present moment with the galley as it is now, with it's jar shelf, herb rack and hanging veg baskets. There are still changes we'd like to make now we've lived onboard for a year, but they're minor tweaks compared to the work that was done to get to this stage.

Interview
I was approached by Sarah from Small Vegan Kitchen, who I had connected with on Instagram through my food blog page ~ Plant Based Galley, to appear on her sailing and food blog. With sailing and plant-based cooking in common it was an easy connection to make with Sarah and hopefully our watery paths will cross in real life one day!
“In this month's Show Me Your Galley, we interviewed Artist, Jewellery Maker, Writer and Sailor Hannah Dorman. She has been sailing with her family in the Mediterranean aboard their 58ft wooden sailboat Sea Snail. Her galley is a reflection of her creative talent and a joy to see.
Join us as we hear about her amazing story, get the low down on her galley tips and take a peak around her beautiful galley.“

Finally, a positive from having to slice up a boat to remove something! Gorgeous galley.
